LOCATION

Shell Point Beach, FL (30 miles south of Tallahassee).

 

DESCRIPTION

PHRF Sailboat, Windsurfing, Hobie Cat, Laser, Sunfish, and Weta Trimaran Races, plus other beach activities all to benefit the American Cancer Society.

 

RACE COURSES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR

1.    Windsurfers - Saturday & Sunday.

a.    Classes (Classes may be added or eliminated at the discretion of the Race Committee)

                                      i.    Open Unlimited (≤ 12.0 m2)

                                    ii.    Open Limited ( ≤ 7.5 m2)

                                   iii.    Windsurfer LT (class-legal sail) - FOR WINDSURFER LT CHARTERS CONTACT Cody Steward at cs.stubbz@outlook.com

                                   iv.    Sport (≤ 7.5 m2)

                                    v.    Novice

2.    Hobie Cat 16, Sunfish, and Weta Trimaran - Friday (if 5 or more boats wish to race) and Saturday.

3.    PHRF (21 feet & over) Spinnaker, Non-Spinnaker, and Cruiser Fleets - Friday (if 5 or more boats wish to race) and Saturday.

REGATTA GUEST PACKAGE FEES (non-sailors)

Guest package: $55; after 4/17/24: $65 (without Saturday night dinner: $45, after 4/17/24 $55); Includes one regatta shirt, unlimited beverages, one dinner, and entertainment.

 

RACING REGISTRATION FEES

1.    Single Handed Boats: $60, after 4/17/24: $70; Includes one regatta shirt, trophy, unlimited beverages, one dinner, and entertainment.

2.    Crewed Boats: $90, After 4/17/24: $100 - Includes two regatta shirts, trophies, unlimited beverages, two dinner tickets, and entertainment.

 

 

REGISTRATION

1.    Online registration opens from March 20th through April 24th at 12:00 Noon.

2.    Early registration is March 20th through April 17th; this saves $10 per registration.

3.    Additional t-shirts may be ordered now with your online registration for $20 or purchased on the beach after the close of registration for $20 each. Extra dinner tickets may be purchased now or on Saturday until noon for $20 each.

4.    After the close of online registration, you can register at the beach Friday afternoon and Saturday (check official event schedule for times).

5.    **Note: All sailing participants must be duly registered before racing in any race. This means that sailors participating in Friday races must be registered online beforehand.

1.    RULES

1.1  Boats - The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).

1.2  For the purposes of the definition of rule, the class rules shall be the rules of the appropriate one design or PHRF class.

1.3  Windsurfing - The regatta will be governed by the "rules" as defined by the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024, including Appendix B - Windsurfing Competition Rules, and, where applicable, the Windsurfer LT Class Rules, and any other class rules for one design classes, the sailing instructions, instructions posted on the official race notice board, and verbal instructions given at any official Skipper's Meeting. Note: Windsurfer LT will follow all of the current strictures of the international W-LT Class, including allowable sail and fin sizes and numbers.

 

2.    ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY

2.1   AGE

Applicants for all classes may be any age.

2.2   US SAILING MEMBERSHIP

Membership in US Sailing is not required.

 

3.    BOATS/MEASUREMENT

3.1   Each competitor will be responsible for their boats being in compliance with the class rules.

6.    SAILING INSTRUCTIONS - The Sailing Instructions (SIs) will be available at the skippers' meeting.

 

7.    SAFETY - A US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device shall be worn (does not include windsurfers), properly fastened, at all times while launching and when sailing, except briefly when adding or removing clothing. Each competitor is urged to have a whistle attached to their PFD.  Failure to comply with this rule may result in disqualification.

 

8.    MEDIA RIGHTS - By participating in this regatta, a competitor (or parent/guardian if under age 18) grants to the SCSMR Foundation and their sponsors the right in perpetuity to make, use and show, from time to time at their discretion, any photographs, motion pictures and live, taped, or filmed television and other reproductions of him or her during the period of the competition without compensation.

 

9.    DISCIPLINE

9.1  All competitors are expected to maintain the highest level of conduct throughout the entire event. When the Protest Committee, from its own observation or a report received from any source, believes that a competitor may have committed a breach of good manners, a breach of good sportsmanship, unethical behavior or conduct that may bring the sport into disrepute, it may call a hearing. After a proper hearing the penalty may range from a reprimand to dismissal from the regatta and additional action may be taken under RRS 69.

9.2  Hearings will be held generally in accordance with the recommendations of Appendix M5 of the RRS.

 

10.  PRIZES

Trophies will be provided through third place. Other trophies may apply with the PHRF fleet.

Sailing is an activity that has an inherent risk of damage and injury. Competitors in this event are participating entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The race organizers (organizing authority, race committee, protest committee, host clubs, sponsors, or any other organization or official) will not be responsible for damage to any boat or other property or the injury to any competitor, including death, sustained as a result of participation in this event. By participating in this event, each competitor agrees to release the race organizers from any and all liability associated with such competitor's participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law.
